Admission and Belay Lessons
Admission is free to Stanford students,
faculty and staff.
Please bring your SUID with you.
You will be asked to sign a waiver during your first visit,
or you can print a waiver,
sign it, and bring it with you to avoid delays (for best
results, print it as 2 sides on a single sheet of paper;
both pages of the waiver are required).
See the
current climbing wall page
for the current waiver.
No
experience is
required to boulder around the gym (climbing at low
height).
To use the
ropes,
you must pass a belay test.
See the
current climbing wall page for belay test hours.
Classes
Several classes (during the school year)
on climbing technique are currently available.
Each class is held 1-1.5 hours per week (Tues., Wed. or Thurs.)
mostly in the 11 am - 2:45 pm time frame.
Enroll through the
Athletics department.
Hours
See the
current climbing wall page for current hours.
The gym is
generally open 5 days a week while classes are
running. The
busiest times are between 7pm and closing.
Equipment
All safety
equipment is free: harnesses, belay-devices and
helmets.
Rock climbing shoes, with sticky-rubber soles, can be
rented.
Location
The
new Whiting Family Climbing Wall is located in the
Arrillaga Family
Recreation Center.

Groups
Group
classes might possibly be arranged during off-hours for Stanford-affiliates,
including alumni. Check with the current staff
