The Stanford Cancer Genetics Clinic was established in 2000 to provide genetic counseling and oncology services to families at risk for hereditary cancers. Counselors establish the family pedigree, verify diagnoses, provide counseling and education sessions, and offer testing for heritable genetic mutations if indicated. Based on the family history and test results, the multidisciplinary team of genetic counselors, geneticists and oncology specialists, provide an individualized risk management program for each client that includes recommendations for preventive measures, screening and follow-up.

The Stanford Program for Applied Cancer Genetics is supported by a grant from the California Department of Health Services, Cancer Research Section.
