CATHOLIC INTERN 2008-2009
Attention all Seniors! We are now accepting applications for the 2008-2009
Catholic Intern position. Here's a brief overview found in last week's
bulletin. The intern position is a great opportunity to serve the Catholic
community and transition away from college life. The perks aren't bad
either! Please submit a resume and a cover letter by the last day of
Winter quarter. Any questions? Contact Estella (cestella@stanford.edu).
SPRING BREAK SERVICE TRIP
Our service trip to Las Vegas is coming up soon and applications are due
even sooner. This year we travel to the St. Therese center to work with
those afflicted with HIV/AIDS. The trip will include helping with the
center's day-to-day operations, working "on location" at individual homes
and hosting spiritual events such as Taize prayer services. Contact Andrew
(abarba@stanford.edu) to sign up. Applications are due February 25 and
space is limited.
CROSSROADS CATHOLIC FELLOWSHIP
At this week's CrossRoads, we will be having a special guest speaker! Come
this Tuesday at 7pm to Old Union, second floor, Room 216C to hear Father
Nathan speak to the group. Contact Chris Hammen (chammen@stanford.edu) for
more information.
TAIZE EVENING PRAYER
Join C@S and UCCM on Tuesday January 29th at 9pm in the Sanctuary on the
third floor of Old Union for an inter-religious Taize evening prayer. If
you've never done Taize prayer, we highly encourage you to attend! Taize
is a beautiful meditative prayer service with singing. Join us for this
often spiritual and always refreshing event!
DISCUSSION SERIES WITH FR. NATHAN
During Winter quarter, Father Nathan will be holding a weekly discussion
series on various religious topics. This week Father Nathan will be
holding a discussion entitled "Saints and Angels." See you on Wednesday at
7:30pm, Old Union Common Room, 3rd floor.
UG DINNER - HELP NEEDED
It's that time again! Our next UG dinner is Sunday, March 9th and the
Catholic Community needs help feeding all those hungry undergrads. If you
would like to help by donating and cooking a main dish to feed between
50-60 students, please contact Andrew (abarba@stanford.edu).
BUSY PERSONS RETREAT
This year's Busy Persons Retreat begins Sunday, March 2 at 5:45pm and
concludes on Thursday at 5pm. This retreat is perfect for those who cannot
go away for an entire weekend but still want to take the time to reflect,
pray, and meditate. Meet each day with a Spiritual Director for 30 minutes
and pledge to spend another 30 minutes in prayer alone. We will match you
with Spiritual Directors who can work around your schedule and you will
decide with your Director the specific meeting times each day. If you are
interested in applying, please fill out a registration form, available
after mass or via e-mail from one of the Interns. Registration deadline is
Wednesday, February 27th. If you have any questions, please contact the
Interns or Fr. Patrick.
GRAD/POST-DOC DINNER
Grad and post doc students: Our next grad/post doc dinner will be on
Sunday, March 2 at 6pm at the Catholic Community Annex, 1565 Stanford
Ave., Palo Alto (at the edge of campus on Stanford and Bowdin). Please
join us next Sunday in yummy food and fun conversation. If you need
directions or have any questions, please e-mail Estella
(cestella@stanford.edu). See you there!
ROSARY

(Tuesday through Sunday) and on the third floor of Old Union during
Eucharistic Adoration (Monday), as well as at 5:45 PM on Sunday afternoons
in the interns. office on the third floor of Old Union. All are welcome to
join us; no experience with the rosary is necessary. Please consider
taking the time to deepen your spiritual life with this traditional
Catholic prayer. If you have any questions or would like more information,
please contact Charlie Capps (ccapps@stanford.edu).
DUMAINE LECTURE BY RENE GIRARD: "THE GOSPELS AS A SOURCE OF
KNOWLEDGE"
Rene Girard, a longtime member of the Stanford faculty, is a Catholic
philosopher and critic of international renown. His books include
Things Hidden Since the Foundation of the World, I See Satan
Fall Like Lightning, and The Girard Reader. As we reflect of
the Passion of Our Lord in preparation for Holy Week and Easter, we are
honored to present a Lenten meditation by Prof. Girard on "The Gospels as
a Source of Knowledge." His talk will be on MONDAY, FEBRUARY 25TH at 7:30
pm in the SANCTUARY, 3rd floor in the Old Union. All are invited to
attend.
WHITE MASS APRIL 14
CCAS will sponsor its first White Mass at 5PM on Monday, April 14, in the
Memorial Church, with a reception to follow. The White Mass, presided over
by the bishop, honors community members who work in the health care
professions. Please join us as we celebrate their service.
PRAYER PARTNERS
When good or bad news happens, the rest of the community
would really like to share your joy or support you in difficult
times. We would like to start putting in the bulletin the
names of those who would like us to pray for them and for
their families, for whatever reason. Simple e-mail Chaplain Nancy
Greenfield (nanccas@aol.com) with your information by
Wednesday mornings, and she will make sure it gets in the
bulletin the following Sunday. Let's journey together!
