I was born in Rochester, Minnesota (not Wisconsin) on Dec 24, 1979. I developed an interest for single molecule mechanics in the laboratory of Julio Fernandez at Rochester's own Mayo Clinic. I then received an AB in physics from Harvard in 2002 and then studied computer science in Cambridge University at Trinity College on a Gates Fellowship. After this experience abroad, I returned to Stanford in the Applied Physics program and joined the Block Lab in 2004. My work in the lab centers around resolving single base pair translocations of RNA polymerase and reducing the noise of optical traps. |
