"Surviving Revolution: A history of the Community Programs of the
Black Panther Party for Self-Defense, 1966-1982"
An analysis of the programs, also known as Survival
Programs, instituted nationally and internationally from
the organization's creation until the closure of its final
community service program, the Oakland Community
School. Emphasizes womens' central roles in developing
and maintaining these programs; cultural components of
the programs which served as a basis for community
support of the organization; and federal as well as local
law enforcement Survival Program surveillance. The first
historical study to incorporate organizational records
and extensive personal interviews.
