Because engineering majors at Stanford are only one component of a liberal
arts education, in addition to the disciplinary requirements for a degree in
engineering, all students must meet the general requirements of the University.
These requirement are carefully detailed in other University publications such
as the Stanford Bulletin and Approaching Stanford.
This degree introduces fundamental biological and biophysical principles while developing strengths in traditional engineering areas. It is not normally recommended as a terminal degree.
The course of study allows students to satisfy many premedical, predental, or preparamedical requirements. For details, contact Stanford's Premedical Advising Office based in the Undergraduate Advising Center in Sweet Hall.
The Handbook for Undergraduate Engineering Programs is another useful resource for students considering the BS:BME degree.
