Patent Search Tutorial How to Search home contact help

New Search

Begin search employing two keywords. Combine ANY TWO keywords in your patent search. Give priority to searches involving at least one generic category to start. Searches involving “specialized” categories will narrow the spectrum of search.

Also, note that singular and plural are not equivalent (unless a wild card is used). Consider all alternate spellings e.g. Anesthesia OR Anaesthesia.

Patent search cannot be completed in one go. Keep track of the used keyword combinations, the patent database you are using, and the relevant documents revealed by the search. Continue patent searching as your idea progresses.

When you complete the list of documents returned by patent search using keyword combination A, start another patent search using keyword combination B, then C, then D, etc.
