Senior Innovation Fellow
Stanford University
Stanford, CA

William Overall received his BSE degree in Biomedical and Electrical Engineering from Duke University in 1996. He went on to a PhD degree in Electrical Engineering at Stanford, developing novel acquisition techniques for efficient contrast manipulation in cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging. He has multiple patents pending for steady-state contrast manipulation techniques using MRI, including one method that can acquire high-quality MR angiograms without the injection of any contrast agent. Bill also co-invented a novel computer input device using ultrasound techniques, and has developed laser and polarimetry technology for an early-stage start-up dedicated to providing hyperpolarized gases for use in high-resolution lung imaging.
Dr. Overall is currently working with the Biodesign program on special projects including a textbook on Bioengineering and the bmesource portal.
