Currently, Ms. Macfarlane is Technology Counsel for Thomas J. Fogarty, M.D., a local physician/entrepreneur, and provides services to various start-up companies in the areas of intellectual property, general law and management. Ms. Macfarlane has been in-house counsel at several medical device start-up companies, including TransVascular, Inc., AneuRx, Inc. (purchased by Medtronic), and VidaMed Inc. (through IPO), in addition to being part of senior management. Ms. Macfarlane specializes in counseling early stage companies on intellectual property strategy, including business development from a patent perspective, licensing and portfolio management. During law school, Ms. Macfarlane served as a judicial extern for the United States District Court, Northern District of California Pro Se Habeas Writ Division and is currently involved in various non-profit activities for the community. Ms. Macfarlane received her Bachelor's degree from San Francisco State University, and her J.D. from Golden Gate University School of Law.
