Description The course provides a foundation to understand the patent system and the strategies to build a patent portfolio and avoid patent infringement. Students learn how to conduct their own patent search and file their own provisional patent application on an invention of their choice.

Students seek approval on an invention of their choice within one of the following categories:

  • Patentability Analysis of their Invention
  • Infringement Analysis of a competitor’s Patent
  • Patent Portfolio Strategy for a startup venture
How are project areas selected The instructor develops the projects through interaction with corporate sponsors well in advance of the start of the course.
