BME-IDEA was started in 2003 when a group of professors who were teaching design within a Biomedical Engineering department or program realized that there were common needs among such professors that were not being met by current conference offerings. The first BME-IDEA meeting was held in San Francisco in 2003 and has met annually or bi-annually ever since. In 2013, the first Europe BME-IDEA meeting is being planned.

Goals

• Review the experiences of different university programs involved in innovation, design, technology transfer and entrepreneurship in biomedical engineering education
• Discuss objectives, challenges, and opportunities for further development of these programs – including industry and academic perspectives
• Explore the potential for sharing resources and creating community- wide tools (e.g., web portal, national design contest, etc).

4/4/2013 Announcing BME-IDEA 9 in Seattle, WA. Our 9th BME-IDEA meeting held in conjunction with BMES will be held on September 25, 2013 in Seattle, Washington.

4/1/2013 Our first ever European BME-IDEA meeting is scheduled for June, 2013.  Invitations will be issued shortly.

10/12/11 The BME-IDEA meeting for 2011 was held in Hartford,CT on October 12, 2011. We have slides from all presenters linked to the agenda.
