GUIDELINES for Editors |

|
| Senior Editors have responsibility for the validity and reliability of the section of which they are in charge. Sections are high level content areas such as in Medicine: Anesthesia or Cardiovascular. In Engineering: Biotechnology or Biomechanics, etc. Senior Editors are selected for their deep knowledge of their specialty as well as their reputation as an expert in their domain. Senior Editors are selected by the Editorial Board from suggestion within that board or the Advisory Board. Primary responsibility is in two areas: Section structure: The Senior Editor is responsible for ensuring that the ontology and structure of his/her section is correct and reflects the best structure for the audience and the content available. Sections may be structured according to one of several guidelines: In Medicine, disease states are the common structural element in the major anatomical areas such as cardiovascular, orthopedics and obstetrics. In other areas of Medicine, such as Anesthesia and Radiology, other structural elements are used such as general areas of concern for technology deployment or approaches to the various technological developments in use. |

In Engineering the structure is based on classifications of approaches to the section material. In Sensors, for instance, a classification structure having to do with the various types of sensors is used (e.g. chemical sensors or mechanical sensors). In Business & Law the section classifications are highly fluid due to the disparate nature of the sections. Much of the ontology of the B&L Domain is still in development. The second area of responsibility for Senior Editors is link validation. This entails the following tasks:
This process is done on a quarterly basis, shortly after the Site Editors have submitted their links. |
