welcome!

Welcome incoming and returning graduate students to the 2007-08 academic year. The Stanford Black Graduate Student Association strives to assist in the holistic development of African American graduate students by focusing on five areas:

  • Cultural Awareness
  • Academic and Professional development
  • Community Involvement
  • Recruitment
  • Retention

  • Our organization traditionally supports the continued academic excellence of Black graduate students at Stanford through a variety programming, such as the Ph.D. Forum, Academic/Professional Workshops, Journeys (Graduate Women's group) and Visible Men (Graduate Men's group). We plan joint activities with the Black Business Student Association, the Black Student Association, the Stanford Medical association, and a number of undergraduate organizations. BGSA also extends our community outside of Stanford by engaging in a number of Bay area community and social events.

    Stay Involved and Stay Connected

    Join a Committee

We all want to make this strong community stronger, which means we need help from ALL.  Involvement could span 1 event, 1 qtr, or the whole year. Committees are Cultural/Social, Academic, Fundraising, & Community Service.
E-mail the core for more info (bgsa_core_06-07@lists.stanford.edu).

    Plan a Member Sponsored Event

Are you planning a social gathering & inviting ALL BGSA members? Do you want reimbursement for a portion of the cost? One week in advance, send the core (bgsa_core_06-07@lists.stanford.edu) with a one paragraph description of your gathering, along with a budget.

    Send the Core Your Ideas

What will make our community stronger? What services should BGSA provide? What new programming could we develop? What do we need from the university? E-mail bgsa_core_06-07@lists.stanford.edu, or any of the core members, with your thoughts.
