RUSSIAN BERLIN
Welcome
to the pathway to Russian Berlin! Here we have recreated a
city whose topography is as if superimposed onto that of the
German cultural capital. It is our goal to decode the resultant
palimpsest on multiple levels and at various historical junctures.
While most of the work done to this moment concentrates on
important figures of the 1920s,such as Vladimir Nabokov and
Andrei Bely, we want ultimately to create a space where one
would be able to travel as far back as Frederick I's Enlightenment
Berlin and also to look at Russian communities in the contemporary
metropolis. In this "anthropological" pursuit, literature,
art, music, politics, and the public sphere of newspapers
and magazines, events and advertisements will become our focal
points and provide connective threads with the other pathways.
