Different plant organs appear to have different rules for patterning stomata. I characterized two mutants that appear to have tissue-specific roles in stomatal pattern. I recently cloned one of them and am trying to understand how this gene and its homologues fit into the LRR-RLK and MAPK-based stomatal signaling systems.
