The members of Belgica are invited to organize events on campus or to participate in events organized by other groups. Typically Belgica organizes a few events every year, such as a waffle-brunch,a spring-BBQ and a Seminar. We are open to any good suggestion and will support all initiatives. Events at Stanford can get funding from the Associated Students of Stanford University (ASSU) and the Graduate Student Council (GSC) . Please register on the mailing list if you wish to stay informed.

Belgica went out for dinner in San Francisco to the Hyde Street Bistro! We were delighted with the tasty French cuisine! Next time we will have to go to La Trappe!

Belgica held its Welcome BBQ 2011 on Friday October 7 at the BBQ area at Willis lounge, Rains Housing. It was a great time to connect with the new Belgians at Stanford, Berkeley and UCSF. We thank you all for passing by and we hope you enjoyed the good food. We thank the Stanford Graduate Student Council for the financial support for this event.

We ended the academic year with an amazing white water rafting trip. 24 students from UCSF, Berkeley and Stanford University went for a full day rafting. 3 boats full of crazy Belgians were struggling down the American Fork River, the ideal occasion to get to know each others real personality. BCNC, Belgica and BAEF alumni invited Prof. Crombez to give a lecture about the political situation in Belgium at that time titled A Year of Political Paralysis in Belgium. The lecture gave an objective overview of the current situation turning into a great opportunity for discussion. This seminar was a great success.

Belgica participated in the biggest international BBQ at Stanford, Fire on Fire V at Bechtel International Center. Eight countries were representing their own gastronomic culture. Belgica was serving beers together with the German Society. This was a big and great event with tasty food, drinks and music!

In winter quarter 2011 Belgica took off to South Lake Tahoe, where we spend the weekend skiing and snowboarding. We had lots of fun in the fresh powder snow and had a good time at the dining table. This weekend is definitely going to be repeated next year.

On a beautiful autumn day in November 2010 Belgica took the Limo for a day trip in Napa Valley in style. After attending a winery and cave tour, everybody was thirsty to continue the day trying more than 15 kinds of wine!

Belgica organized a Welcome Barbeque 2010 on Friday October 1st in Wilis Lounge (Rains-Stanford). We were very happy to see so many new (and familiar) faces and we hope you enjoyed the good food. Hope to see many of you soon on future events!

On Saturday May 29 2010 Belgica screened the final day of the Queen Elisabeth Competition 2010 (Piano) at The Knoll. We provided traditional Belgian fries during the screening as well as some other Belgian snacks.

Together with the Argentinian, German, Hellenic, Romenian, Persian and Turkish Groups, Belgica organized this years FireOnFire IV. This was an amazing BBQ + Party at the Bechtel I-center. We were glad that so many international students and their families showed up to this event. Together with the German Association, Belgica served Belgian and German beers as well as non-alcoholic beverages.

On Saturday Belgica went sporty spice and enjoyed an afternoon in the sun playing Beach VolleyBall. With sore muscles, hurting feet and scratched knees we made it to the evening swim and BBQ.

On Saturday evening March 6th Belgica invited Prof. Dr. Adam Hochschild to give a short seminar at the Bechtel I-center on the exploitation of the Congo Free State by King Leopold II of Belgium. Dr. Hochschild is the author of the book King Leopold's Ghost. This history book won the Duff Cooper Prize in Britain, the Mark Lynton History Prize in the United States, and was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award. After the introduction by Dr. Hochschild, we screened the documentary film King Leopold's Ghost (2006), directed by Pippa Scott and narrated by Don Cheadle. We were very happy to see so many of you present at this succesful event.

On Tuesday December 1 Belgica visited the Anchor Steam Brewery in San Francisco. Anchor's beers are produced in one of the most traditional and handsome breweries anywhere in the world. The brewers employ no modern shortcuts. Each brew is virtually handmade with an all-malt mash in their handmade copper brewhouse, a veritable museum of the simple, traditional brewhouses of old. We were guided around the brewery and enjoyed tasting the excellent seasonal as well as their core range of brews.

The BAEF alumni association (East-Coast)is hoping to expand it's activities to the West-Coast, and especially to the bay-area. Therefore, on Friday 23th October 2009, Sandrine Dury and Alexis Krumme, who serve as the local BAEF coordinators for the bay-area, organized a get-together in San Francisco. Because many of the Belgians at Stanford are BAEF fellows or alumni, Belgica supported this event. This was also a good occasion to connect with our fellow compatriotes at UC Berkeley and UCSF.

Belgica organized a Welcome BBQ on October 9th 2009 at Wilis Lounge (Rains - Stanford). We were very happy to see so many new faces and we hope you enjoyed it as much as you did. Many thanx to those who helped organizing and those taking care of the cooking and cleaning during the event.
