Lyndsey Toeppen '04, Jared Cohen '04, and Josh Haner '02 traveled to Kenya, where they completed a collaborative project on the changing ways Maasai men and women socialize their youth. They spent 3 months living in a small village in the Kajiado district of Southern Kenya. Zoe Bradbury '01 travelled to Chile, where she completed her project on comparing agricultural and sustainable environmental conservation practices in the town of La Estrella, and her hometown area of rural, coastal SW Oregon.
Caitrin McKiernan '02 returned from Beijing, completing her project on looking at influences that effect women's career choices and future decisions in the urban and changing P.R. of China.
Chris Maloney '02 double majored in Economics and African/African-American Studies from suburban New York. He returned from covering 15,000km around southern Africa in a rented VW, looking at the region through the lens of the Labor-Augmented Solow Economic Growth Model. Janet Altman '00 and Ashley Adams '00 were both Human Biology majors. Janet is from Cumberland, Maine, and Ashley is from Helena, Montana. Their project involved a study of lemurs in the area of Ranomanfana National Park in Madagascar.
Scott Stonington '00 hails from Boulder, Colarado, and is majored in Biology. He has conducted several field studies in Ghana and in Indonesia, and is interested in conservation issues. His project focused on national parks in Madagascar. Read his thesis based largely on his Beagle 2 research.
Kumar Narayanan '00 majored in Human Biology and Humanities Special Programs from Seattle, Washington. His project involved studying the changing relationship of people to the Yangtze River in the context of the Three Gorges Dam. Rita Ng '00 and Phillina Lai '00 both majored in Human Biology. They traveled to Taiwan and China, and conducted surveys on the perception of aging. They presented a paper at a conference on China Studies in Washington DC. Does the name Rita Ng ring a bell? If you followed the 2000 Miss America Pageant, it should!
