Thanks to everyone that participated in the meeting.
I think we were all very happy to see such a good turn out and the positive,
hopeful spirit we all had for the potential of this Alliance.
For those that were not able to make it, I hope that you will be able
to join us next time as we continue to develop the relationships amongst
the groups. Contact me if you have any additional Questions.
Everyone at the meeting shared what they would like to see (tangible
functional things) from the Alliance.
Here are some of the ideas that we had:
-
Know what other groups are doing.
-
Big, collaborative event for all groups, once or twice a year.
-
Provide people-power and increased visibility for each other on important
issues--more importantly, to PROACTIVELY look for ways we can involve
other groups in each other's work...not just passing out flyers or showing
but really incorporating each other into programming.
-
Alliance Lists, Alliance Coordinator Lists
-
Regular Meetings with Representative from Participating Groups
-
Development of Real Community Within Alliance -- Friendships
and Faces add so much to everything we do together
-
Maintain Umbrella-Like structure--not to exist as a new entity,
separate from pre-existing groups.
-
Reach-out to additional people in all areas
Here are some of the more concrete things we had in mind:
-
Support groups trying to get Special Fees (to support their organization
and support Alliance work which each group's Special Fee [or Program Board
Funding] will help fund)
-
Conference in the Early aimed mainly at Freshmen, to Disorient them
and get them thinking about Real Issues and learn about what groups are
really doing to promote activism (a counter, if you will, to the Stanford
Bubble and all the hype and weirdo energy of Freshmen Orientation.
Groups will plan events/panels discussing issues they are working on...and
maybe get outside speakers to talk about issues as well. YEAH!
-
Working with Labor Conference to deal with issues of minorities, females,
prison workers, etc in the labor market
-
Before School Retreat for coordinators/representatives
to get to know each other and develop bonds and community that will help
collaboration efforts throughout the year.
-
Use web calendar to share events with rest of group: http://campus-calendar.stanford.edu/aware
-
Bi-Weekly Meetings on Wednesday Nights at 9:30. Additional
Meetings as Necessary.
-
Let other people know this Alliance is for real. Get them to come
if they are interested in this kind of thing.
