Iraq, Afghanistan, and the US: An Open Space Gathering

Iraq, Afghanistan, and the U.S.

A Stanford Community Open Space Gathering
Hosted by Arroyo House, Wilbur Hall

Friday, November 10, 2006, 8-10 pm
Wilbur East Dining Hall
(map link: http://campus-map.stanford.edu/index.cfm?ID=06-400K)

Following the November 7 elections, Arroyo House invites all Stanford
community members to an "open space" discussion of U.S. foreign and
military policy in Iraq and Afghanistan and related issues. The dining
hall will be marked into different regions where discussion groups can
meet on various topics loosely within the theme of the gathering. Anyone
who attends can sign up to host a group. There will be two sessions of
discussion groups, one starting at 8 pm, and one starting at 9. Attend
either or both. Groups may be for general discussion, political
organizing, or disseminating information. Hosts will announce and post
their discussion groups and meeting locations within the dining hall at
the beginning of each hour under a version of the "open space" protocol
(see http://www.openspaceworld.org/cgi/wiki.cgi?AboutOpenSpace for more
info). All points of view are welcome. We will end each hour with quick
report backs from each group to the whole gathering.

Please forward widely within the Stanford community.

Dorm Webcam

As Big Brother-ish as it may seem, we still think a dorm webcam that points to the whiteboard is a cool and possibly useful idea. So, if you're using Mozilla Firefox or Safari, you can click on the following link which will automatically log you in to view the whiteboard:

If you're using Internet Explorer, you can click on the following link and type in the login (which is arroyo) and leave the password field blank to view the whiteboard:

DVD Library

Props to Scott (Rm 101) for sending out his uber-list of movies and tv-shows! I bet a lot of us have some DVDs that we’re all willing to share and it’d be really cool if we all could share what we have. But things could get complicated and messy if everyone sends out an e-mail; plus, everyone would have to save all the e-mails and search each person’s list if they were looking for a DVD. So instead, some of us came up with a different solution: an online searchable database. Here’s how it works:

To share:

Post a comment in response to this entry with the list of your DVDs.

To browse:

Click the link on the right that says “DVD Library”.

To search:

Click the link on the right that says “DVD Library” and use your browser’s find function (Ctrl+F) and type in the title you’d like to search for.

Happy sharing!
