Cheri Ross

Cheri Ross received her Ph.D. in English from Stanford, specializing
in Renaissance poetry and drama. Her research interests include
the plays of William Shakespeare and Ben Jonson as well as the work
of Virginia Woolf and the semiotics of natural history museums.
In 2001 Cheri won the Dinkelspiel Award for distinctive contributions
to undergraduate education at Stanford.

Edward Steidle
Lecturer in English

Edward Steidle joined the Stanford English faculty in 1984. His
area of specialization is medieval art and literature. He is currently
working on comparative approaches to the study of ancient European,
Asian, and Central American cultures. He also leads travel groups
to historical sites in Italy and the Aegean.

Richard Cushman
Lecturer in English

Richard Cushman holds a Ph.D. in English from UC Berkeley, with
specializations in late medieval and Renaissance lyric poetry and
drama. His interests include religious and erotic poetry, including
the sonnet sequence, Shakespeare, and Renaissance humanism. He is
also a choir director and organist. Associated with Stanford since
1993, Richard Cushman received the Walter J. Gores Award for Excellence
in Teaching in 1997.

Renee Courey
Lecturer, Introduction to the Humanities Program

Renee Courey has a PhD in History from UC Berkeley, where she studied
the effects of language and cultural beliefs on scientific development
and regulation. She has taught for ten years in Stanford's freshman
humanities programs, where her focus has broadened to include literary
texts. Her current interests include modern vs. post-modern views
of perception and selfhood.
