Are you looking for candidates who have already started initiatives, or candidates who are aiming to start projects?
-We are looking for both. We are looking for youth leaders who are already addressing social, civic, or economic issues in innovative ways, or have ideas about how to do so, or demonstrate potential to influence Middle Eastern-American affairs. We want passionate people who are committed to making a positive difference in the world.

Do the initiatives have to be related to politics/democracy/U.S–Middle East relations?
-We are looking for initiatives that are pertinent to the Middle East. But in this context, they can be about anything from addressing poverty in your local community, to creating a start-up business, to political activism.

How much experience do I need working with cross-cultural dialogue or Middle Eastern affairs?
-None. We are looking for young people with truly innovative ideas about how to address current issues in the Middle East. Previous experience is not necessarily required.

-The majority of the conference will be in English, but the delegates will be encouraged to give their presentation in whatever language they prefer.

Are there any English proficiency requirements for non-native English speakers?
-Delegates with a good command of the English language is required. If English is not your first language, you will need to indicate results of exams that test for english proficiency (i.e. TOEFL or IELTS) in the application. You may be asked for certificates of the results which you may obtain from the examiner, so its best to send in any copies of certificates you have with the submission of your AMENDS application.

English is not my first language, and I have not done any English proficiency exam, what should I do?
-We understand that these exams cost money and time to prepare and register in advance. In this particular case only, you can make a note of it on your application and a representative from AMENDS will contact you to acquire additional forms and documents as proof of your good command of the language if you proceeded further.

Will I be able to attend for only part of the conference?
-We ask that delegates be present for the entirety of the conference. If accepted, an applicant will be contacted by an AMENDS representative who will discuss the arrival/departure process in further detail.
