Great news!  The ASSU and the GSC has agreed to partially fund our Wilderness First Responder (WFR) class here at Stanford! Provided by the Wilderness Medicine Institute, the WFR is an amazing 80 hour course that will train people to handle medical emergencies in the backcountry. Some outdoor jobs require this certification. A lot of work has been invested in having this class at Stanford so that we can foster a safer outdoors community here. Participants in the course are heavily encouraged to lead trips for the various outdoor organizations on campus. A more detailed description of the course is below. The class will take place during our Spring Break, between Saturday, March 25th through Monday, April 3rd. Please go to http://www.stanford.edu/group/redwood/wfr/ to take steps toward reserving a spot. The class will cost $375. Financial aid (exact amount will be determined when the list of participants are finalized) will be available to Stanford students who are involved in the Outdoor community. (if there are any questions of this, please see the above website, or contact us at wildernessfirstresponder [AT] gmail.com) So sign up fast (the first deadline is Jan. 15th)! There are only 30 spots available . If more than 30 people sign up, there will be a random drawing on Jan. 16th to decide who can take the class. Also, Stanford students will be given first priority. So again, please goto: http://www.stanford.edu/group/redwood/wfr/ for a registration packet and relevant information. PLEASE FORWARD THIS TO ANYONE OR ANY LIST YOU BELIEVE MAY BE INTERESTED!
