Outing Club updates and Winter Quarter Calendar Some updates: 1) We have an awesome new photo server (serviced by Eng-Shien, housed by Joe Kahn) that members can use to post pictures from Outing trips. See http://outing.stanford.edu to see what is there and to register for an account (note that you don't have to upload files one at a time, just use Gallery Remote or Upload Applet). 2) We have made a significant start on revamping our website and achieving our goal of automated trip-report generation. Great trip leader meeting tonight! A lot of new faces, quite some old faces, amazing pizza and above all a great schedule for the upcoming winter. Take advantage of it and go on a trip. And remember that we have lots of snowshoes, XC skis and boots and all the regular camping gear to rent out! The one day plan would simplify weekend logistics (no need for tents, food, or even to all travel on skis) and allow instructors or students to choose between driving back and spending Sunday skiing. SPOT Information/ Leader Training, starts 1/23 I hope that everyone is settling into another fun and exciting quarter. With the beginning of the quarter, the time has come again for the SPOT Leader Training Workshops. We will be having our first workshop next *Monday, January 23rd in Education Building Room 206, from 7:30-10:00 PM*. The first hour of this workshop will be an information session during which we will give an overview of the program and answer any questions you may have about the program or the leader training process. Feel free to come just for the info session. For those who stay, the second half of the workshop will cover Adventure-based learning and the mission and goals for the program. Workshops this quarter will be Monday nights (Jan 23, 30, and Feb 6, 13). Completion of these workshops is the important first step toward becoming a SPOT leader. Recap: SPOT Information Session/Leader Workshop #1 Monday, January 23 7:30-10:00 PM Education Building Room 206 ---------------------------------------------------------------- 5. SIGN UP FOR WILDERNESS FIRST AID (Feb 4-5) and CPR (Feb 8) SPOT will be hosting a wilderness first aid (WFA) class on campus the weekend of February 4-5. The class will run from 8AM - 5PM both Saturday and Sunday. There will also be a separate CPR class offered on Wednesday, February 8 from 6:30-10:30 PM. The classes are both taught by Bobbie Foster (http://www.fostercalm.com), and come highly recommended by those who have taken them. Anyone who spends any time in the backcountry should seriously consider this training - plus it's lots of fun!
