Date: Sat, 10 Sep 2005 15:10:33 -0700 From: Matt Farrell To: Climbing , Redwood Subject: SAC Fall info and meeting Ahoy all, I hope everyone is getting much good climbing and outdoors fun in, and has been all summer. For those on the climbing and redwood lists who don't know about SAC, we are the Stanford Alpine Club, and we run the instructional climbing trips on campus, sponsor awesome slideshows, and facilitate climbing trips to Yosemite and other places by reserving campsites and helping people find climbing partners, among other things. If you don't know about us, and are interested, check out our website (alpineclub.stanford.edu), and come to our first meeting fall quarter. So, that said, this e-mail is mainly to give some info about what is going to be going on with SAC this fall, and to announce our first fall quarter meeting. Here is the info: 1) FIRST FALL QUARTER MEETING: The first meeting will be on Monday Oct. 3rd, at 8pm on the second floor of Tresidder (we will announce the exact room when we get word back from the meeting services people). This is the meeting to come to if you are interested in the Alpine Club and want more info, or if you want to catch up with friends after the summer and hear some cool stories. 2) Immediately preceding the Info meeting on the 3rd, we will have a mandatory All-SAC Instructors meeting at 7pm. If you are interested in leading a trip for SAC, or joining the SAC leadership, and want to hear about the exciting possibilities of securing prodeals and heavily subsidized WFR courses for SAC instructors, you MUST show up to this meeting. 3) This fall, we are going to have a full lineup of Backcountry Workshops, including at least one intro to climbing trip, most likely two anchors trips, and possibly more formal instructional trips. There will also be many informal SAC climbing trips going on from now until it snows (and even after). Information on each individual trip will be sent out a few weeks in advance. 4) Every week, on monday nights at 7pm we will be having short and fun weekly meetings. Following each club meeting at 7:30 we will be having an installment of the Sierra Nevada Slide Show series, which allows people from the stanford community to come share photos of awesome trips they go on. In the past, we have had people show photos of climbing in the Alps, mountaineering in Alaska, cycling across the US, working in Antarctica, and hitchhiking across Patagonia. Each week, we will announce who is going to be sharing their photos and stories. On a similar vein, if you have photos of a sweet adventure you went on, and want to share them, contact Niloy (niloy [AT] stanford.edu), who is our slideshow officer. 5) We are currently looking at bringing in some major speakers to come give talks here on campus. We are currently working on arrangements to bring in Simon Yates (from Touching the Void) at the beginning of winter quarter. More info on this will follow later in the quarter. Alright, if you have any questions, show up to our fall quarter meeting, or feel free to e-mail me any time (although I can't guarantee I'll get back to you right away, since I may be out climbing).
