Date: Tue, 8 May 2007 01:27:12 -0700 (PDT) From: Clint Cummins To: Yosemite Informal Trip 5/12-13/07 Subject: Yosemite Informal Trip May 12-13 Note: modified 8 May 2pm - changed from Intro Trip to Informal Trip, because some people were concerned that they could not join an instructional trip. Thanks to everyone who responded to our questions about what type of trip to have in Yosemite for this coming weekend. The most popular responses were for an Intro Trip (toproping) or an informal toproping trip, which is nearly the same thing. So the plan is to have a Informal trip, with toproping on Saturday, followed on Sunday with more toproping, or some easy multipitch climbs, depending on what people are ready for. We will also teach a variety of skills (rappelling, toprope anchors, gear placement), to anyone, based on what they want to learn. We assume you already know how to belay. You will also need to arrange to obtain your own gear if you need any (shoes, harness and belay device). SAC gear hours are Wednesday 8:30-9pm at the Stanford Climbing Wall. There is an OEP trip with 7 students going out the same weekend, but there should be plenty of shoes, harnesses and helmets left if you need to borrow/rent those. If you need to borrow a sleeping bag, there are Redwood gear hours. Below are a few more questions, so we can set up the carpools: 1. What is your preferred time to leave Palo Alto (standard options are 7pm Friday or 5:30am Saturday). 2. Preferred time to leave Yosemite? (standard is 7pm Sunday). 3. Do you have a car? How many people including the driver and gear does it hold? 4. Do you have a National Parks Pass? (helpful for planning carpools) I will keep track of the carpools on the SAC calendar page. http://alpineclub.stanford.edu/info/calendar.html If you have any questions, please let me know. Sincerely, Clint
