SAC Instructors Survey

A few questions like number of anchors set and comfortable leading level, for use with the Instructor qualifications table for SAC Classes.

Please Copy/Paste the questions below into an email, fill in the answers, and send it to: Clint Cummins ( clint@stanford.edu ).

1. _______ Please estimate the number of belay anchors (of all types) you have constructed. You can estimate using number of weekends of climbing, times number of climbs per weekend, times average number of pitches per climb. If it's a large number, like over 100, there's no need for a precise estimate or tedious count.

2. _______ Please estimate the number of bottom-belay toprope anchors you have constructed. These are the type where you set up some slings and biners at the top of the climb, and you belay at the bottom of the climb.

3. _______ What is your comfortable trad leading level. That is, on routes which require gear (nuts, cams, etc.) for lead protection, what grade would you normally try on a typical weekend. Examples: 5.6, 5.7, 5.9, 5.10a, etc. If you are not familiar with this ("Yosemite Decimal System") grading scale, here is a rating comparison chart.

4. Please list three of your recent trad leads. (Just so we have a rough idea of what you've been climbing - examples of your comfortable leading level).
4.1 Climb: ____________________________ Area: _______________________ Rating: __________ Date (approx.): __________
4.2 Climb: ____________________________ Area: _______________________ Rating: __________ Date (approx.): __________
4.3 Climb: ____________________________ Area: _______________________ Rating: __________ Date (approx.): __________

Thanks! Hopefully those questions were easy to answer. The purpose of this survey is simply to check climbing experience levels for SAC instructors which are relevant to the different instructional trips. If there is ever an accident on one of these trips, this enables us to show we were careful in to choosing qualified instructors.
