Want to start learning skills that are the foundation for lead climbing and multi-pitch climbing? The Stanford Alpine Club (SAC) presents: ANCHORS I A full day class devoted to teaching how to build climbing anchors, using passive protection (trees, rocks and bolts), and how to assess anchors and protection. You can choose to join either day, or both days. WHO: People who have already climbed outdoors and know how to tie-in, belay and rappel. (If you don?t, take an Intro to Climbing class.) If you've already set up a toprope or two, that's great, but it's not a requirement. This class is open to anyone affiliated with Stanford. WHERE: Class will be held at Castle Rock, about a 45 minute drive from campus. We can set and/or climb until dark. There will also be a classroom session on Thursday 5/15 at 7pm, Location TBA COST: SAC members $15; non-members $20. You can pay club dues of $25 when you register and get the class at the reduced rate, plus all the benefits of being a SAC member for a whole year (including campsites, discounts, gear rental, etc.). WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING: Your own food and gear (harness, helmet, shoes, ATC + locking biner), and any material you can use to build anchors (it?s best to practice with what you own, since it?s what you will use). If you want to rent more gear, you can check it out from the Gear Gurus on Wednesday nights7-8p at gear hours (climbing wall in Arrillaga). Gear rentals are covered by the cost of the trip. Bring cash for gas. Payment is required at the classroom session. We don?t want to turn people away because someone else is taking up a slot that could have been used by others.
