Why Alpha Kappa Psi?

I have a pretty different story than most, as I actually rushed and pledged at the Phi Chapter at the University of Michigan, first semester of my freshman year. What really made AKPsi stand above the rest of the social frats in my eyes was the people. AKPsi brothers strive to do really big things, both in the business world and beyond. They also understood the importance of playing as hard as you work! When I accepted my bid from AKPsi, I chose to surround myself with the type of people I aspired to be like, and who were moving in the directions I wanted go.

Most valuable aspect of joining?

Definitely the community. As transfer students, many of us have difficulty branching out and integrating into the Stanford community. My transition was seamless, and I owe that in humongous part to AKPsi. The brothers are so open and welcoming, truly promoting a family feeling that most people never get to experience in their lifetimes. It’s an amazing feeling being able to walk around Stanford campus feeling like you truly know your place. I look forward to being surrounded by many of my brothers for the rest of my life.

How has Alpha Kappa Psi helped you?

AKPsi has definitely helped me work with people. While pledging at Michigan and while serving as a member of executive committee, there have been so many opportunities to work with a team towards a goal that tangibly benefits my life. I feel myself becoming a better communicator, leader, and teammate every day. I also feel like the fact that you’re also really close friends with a lot of people you’re working with is a rare experience that prepares me for real world situations in a way that few other situations can.

Any Other Words for Prospective Rushees?

Look, rushing AKPsi is definitely in contention for the best decision I’ve ever made. That’s the reason I’ve decided to dedicate so much time to it as president this year. If you’re still looking for your “home” at Stanford or if you feel lost about your future plans and want to be surrounded by people who can guide you, or if you just want to have fun and learn a few things; RUSH! Check it out. Talk to brothers. Worst case scenario; you meet some really awesome, baller people. Any Econ major can tell you; you’ll find few better investments of your time out there!

Why Alpha Kappa Psi?

For the people! Being more of a fuzzy than a business person, I was initially drawn to AKPsi by the really cool friends I met who were in it. As for the professional aspect, even though I wasn’t planning on doing business, I knew that professional skills apply to whatever career I will end up choosing, and so that was an extra plus!

Most valuable aspect of joining?

I’ve made some of my best friends through AKPsi, and I already know that they will be the people I will invite to my wedding one day –corny I know, but it’s true!

How has Alpha Kappa Psi helped you?

Aside from meeting a ton of fun, ambitious, and supportive friends, AKPsi alumni mentoring has helped me greatly along these last two years, helping me weed out what I don’t like and exploring more of what I feel passionate about. We have an amazing alumni network, and they’re all incredibly willing to make time for you!

Most memorable AKPsi experience?

This summer, I planned my traveling adventures based on the location of my AKPsi brothers throughout the months. There was a hoard of brothers in China over the summer ( approximately 9 of us, alumni included), and this was followed by an Asia excursion to Hong Kong, Macau, Malaysia, and Korea. I absolutely love traveling with my brothers, and it made for the most epic summer!

“ I originally joined AKPsi because I wanted to meet new people. AKPsi is far more than a professional organization or a social fraternity. It really is a family in many ways, and the way brothers come together and support each other is truly incredible.

Professionally, AKPsi helped me land my awesome sophomore year internship, with brothers lending a hand in everything from case prep and resume editing to interview-appropriate neck wear. I’ve also had the chance to interact with students and professionals from all around the country. On a more personal level, my brothers are the people who keep me sane, motivated, and inspired.”

“Just as I believe that the best attribute of Stanford is its people, I feel the same about AKPsi. AKPsi has been a way for me to keep meeting phenomenal like-minded people at Stanford. I was going through a very difficult time earlier this year and my brothers all joined together one day and surprised me with a huge card! It was really nice just knowing you have people that support you and care about you. We really are more of a family – unlike any other student group on campus. Definitely come out to rush and talk to the people. If you like the people, then you’ll like AKPsi – because that’s who we are.

“ I didn’t really plan on pledging, but from going to the rush events I got to talk to all the interesting people in AKPsi and got a taste for the family that is AKPsi. The amazing brothers you will meet and grow to love in AKPsi are more valuable than anything else any other business group can offer. As a Stanford student, AKPsi has helped me grow and find my place in this often daunting school. My network of AKPsi brothers has often aided me as I try to accomplish my goals.”
