Stanford AIAA -- Milano
 LG Sister Section Page

This is the cyberspace home of the Sister Section project between the Stanford University AIAA chapter and the AIDAA/Euroavia Milano chapter at the Politecnico di Milano.

Over the next weeks and months, you'll see a lot more information on this page which will help maintain the contacts between the Stanford and Milan groups.

Latest News: Stanford AIAA had a teleconference with representatives from AIDAA/Euroavia Milano and AIAA San Francisco Section. The transcript of the teleconference is posted here.

Why?

So why is Stanford AIAA embarking on this type of partnership? A few reasons:

  • Globalization of the aerospace market.
There are many aerospace ventures nowadays that involve more than one nation, such as International Space Station, EuroFighter, and SeaLaunch to name a few. As a result...
  • Engineers are needed who can work in such an international environment.
  • Knowledge of international business and culture is essential.

A Brief History:

In 1998 and 1999, the Milano student chapter of AIDAA/Euroavia presented an idea of a permanent partnership with the AIAA San Francisco Section. Because AIDAA/Euroavia is a student group, the Section felt that it would be better to open up contacts and partnerships with the local universities. In November 1999, a group of students from the Milan group visited Stanford Aero/Astro and discussed the idea with the officers of the school's AIAA chapter. As a result of those meetings, a working group on the Sister Section was established in Milan, and a proposal was drafted by the San Francisco Section to help make the Sister Section a reality.

The Sister Section:

The objective of the Sister Section is to develop a partnership with AIDAA/Euroavia Milan (with the assistance of the AIAA San Francisco section) that will involve the exchange of:

  • industry contacts
  • publications
  • scholarships and contests
  • people (long-term)
The benefits of this partnership with the Milan group are the following:
  • Opportunities for members to participate in exchange events between the chapters
  • A gateway to European universities and companies for internships, research, and future employment
  • A chance to meet new cultures and experience different countries
  • More publicity for the Stanford AIAA and San Francisco Section (and the same for the Italian section!)

Remember: The Sister Section is a Permanent and Ongoing project! With the help of Stanford Aero/Astro and the members of Stanford AIAA, we can make it a reality!!
