Senior Vice President of R&D, VMware
Charles Fan is Senior Vice President of R&D at VMware, leading the global R&D team of VMware’s Application Storage and Data products. Charles and his team are responsible for the software-defined storage and big data strategy and execution at VMware, a leader in cloud infrastructure.
Prior to this role, Charles was the founder and leader of both the VMware China R&D Center, and the EMC China Center of Excellence. Today, Over 2000 engineers work in those R&D Centers, and both centers are among the most respected R&D groups in China. Prior to his China roles, Charles was a co-founder and CTO of Rainfinity, which was acquired by EMC in 2005. He led the creation of Rainfinity’s industry leading file virtualization and high availability products.
Charles is an expert in distributed systems and network storage technologies. He received his Ph.D. and M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the California Institute of Technology, and his B.E. in Electrical Engineering from the Cooper Union.
Intel Fellow, Intel Architecture Group
Chief Media Architect and Director, Visual and Parallel Computing Group Media Architecture Team
Hong Jiang is an Intel Fellow and the chief media architect and director of the Visual and Parallel Computing Group’s Media Architecture Team at Intel Corporation. He leads the media architecture of processor graphics and its derivatives, including the definition of media hardware and software assets and the group’s technology roadmap. As chief media architect – a position he has held since 2002 – Jiang earned recognition for co-inventing the programmable Intel graphics architecture that has powered all Intel client PCs since 2006.
In a previous role as a platform architect at Intel, Jiang contributed to and co-edited key interconnect and video-coding standards. Earlier, as a video architect, he led video decoder and video capture hardware and software definition and implementation for chipset graphics products. Jiang joined Intel in 1996 in the then-newly formed graphics operation in Intel’s PCI Component Division.
Jiang has more than 20 journal and conference publications to his name, and he holds 38 issued patents and 44 pending patents in the fields of imaging and visual computing, graphics and media architecture, video compression, video processing, inter-chip communication, computer system architecture and processor architecture. He was honored with an Intel Achievement Award in 2011 for outstanding innovation in delivering an industry-leading media architecture.
Jiang received his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Science and Technology of China. He holds a master’s degree in electrical engineering from Academia Sinica, Institute of Electronics, Beijing; and a second master’s degree in engineering science from Dartmouth College. He earned his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Lester H. Lee
Seasoned Entrepreneur in Silicon Valley
Dr. Lester H. Lee is one of the old timers in Silicon Valley. He came to America 50 years ago after finishing high school in China. He is a graduate of Univ. of Illinois and settled in Silicon Valley after getting his Ph. D from Stanford.
He is currently president of Recortec, Inc. a company he started 30 years ago. Recortec is now the oldest Chinese owned hi-tech company.
Dr. Lee is the founder and past president of a number of prominent Chinese hi-tech organizations such as CIE, Chinese Institute of Engineers, AAMA, Asian American Manufacturers Association, and MJ, Monte-Jade Technology Association.
He has also been extremely active in the Chinese community. He and his wife Helen have been major supporters of all Chinese political candidates in America. He himself is the first ever Chinese appointed to the Board of Regents, the governing body of the 9 campus University of California.
Back in year 2000, he also founded and served as the first chairperson of Northern California Chinese for Peaceful Unification (CPU-NC). He and his wife Helen resides in Saratoga, Ca.

Raymond is Co-Founder and Managing Director of WestSummit Capital, a leading China-based global growth equity firm focused on helping high growth technology companies access the China market.
Raymond has more than 25 years of investment and entrepreneurial experience in the US and China technology sector. Prior, Raymond was Founding Partner of Taishan Angel Fund, the leading institutional angel fund in China. Earlier, he was also Managing Partner at Navi Capital Partners and a Venture Partner at Northern Light Venture Capital.
Prior, Raymond was the CEO of Linktone (NASDAQ: LTON), the leading wireless value-added services provider in China, where he led the company through a turnaround situation and took the company public on NASDAQ in 2004. Before Linktone, Raymond was a senior executive and entrepreneur at several high-technology companies in Silicon Valley and China, including Founder and CEO of RivalWatch and Founder and CEO of Saratoga Technology Inc.
Raymond is a Delegate Member of the World Economic Forum Davos Global Agenda Council on Fostering Entrepreneurship. Raymond is a former Chairman of the prestigious Tsinghua Entrepreneur and Executive Club (TEEC).
Raymond holds a Bachelors from Tsinghua University and a Masters from the Graduate School of China EPRI.
Etch Integration, Silicon System Group (SSG)

Ying Zhang is Vice President of Etch Integration, SSG, Applied Materials. Ying’s current responsibilities include path-finding, developing and implementing key integrated solutions for the high volume manufacturing of advanced technology nodes, such as 10nm and beyond.
Prior to joining AMAT working on Etch Integration, Ying Zhang was a Director with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) worked in plasma etching, wet clean, PVD, and CVD areas. Before TSMC, he was a Research Staff Member and the manager of the Advanced Plasma Processing and Metallization group at the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center worked on plasma processing for advanced microelectronics, including many nodes of CMOS technology development and exploratory nanometer scale novel device prototyping beyond the CMOS era.
With a Ph.D. of Physics from the State University of New York at Albany and more than 20 years of plasma etch technology experience at the world leading industry Research Center and world top foundry Fab, Ying has a track record of solving complex device and integration problems, developing leading-edge plasma etch technologies, and rapidly transitioning them into high volume manufacturing.
