ACS Executive Board Membership
Stanford ACS will next be accepting applications for executive board membership in Spring Quarter. In the meantime, you can learn more about the Executive Board functions by reading below or asking a current member. Also, remember that in order to apply for the Board, you must be a general member of Stanford ACS. You can sign up to become a member here. Policy Programming Committee The Policy Committee is responsible for recruiting high profile speakers to come to campus for discussions of timely issues of law and policy. Our committee is also responsible for coordinating with and preparing the speakers, setting up the rooms, and working with the ACS communications chair and others to promote the events. This year we'd like to bring in speakers who are experts on the legislation being debated in Congress, the California constitutional crisis, and other topics du jour. We'd also like to organize events in coordination with other student groups at the law school and the wider university. The committee solicits the help of the ACS membership in brainstorming speakers and helping to organize events. Start digging through your rolodex! Questions? email David Edeli (edeli@stanford.edu) or Eric Hansford (hansford@stanford.edu). Judicial Relations Committee The Judicial Relations Committee is responsible for recruiting and organizing all events that bring state and federal judges to speak at Stanford. Responsibilities include communicating with judges and their chambers to schedule events, making travel arrangements, and guiding judges around campus during their visit. Questions? email Kara Kapp (karakapp@stanford.edu) or Paco Torres (ptorres@stanford.edu). National Podcast & Progressive Outreach Committee This Committee is the "long arm" branch of our ACS chapter. It is focused on extending the reach of the Stanford chapter outside the bounds of the law school, and maintaining the public image of our group. In addition to interviewing speakers for our podcast, "Summary Judgments," committee members work to maintain the chapter's website. Other projects intended to further our outreach efforts are also underway, and new ideas are both welcome and encouraged. No technical experience is required. Questions? email Esteban Morin (emorin@stanford.edu). Communications Committee The Communications Committee is responsible for both internal and external communications -- communications within the chapter and with the local media. This year, the Communications Committee will focus on building the chapter's relationship with its members, and publicizing the chapters efforts to local media outlets. Responsibilities include advertising ACS events to the law school community, serving as a media contact for major events, developing new systems for tracking and communicating with chapter membership, and working to expand the chapters relationships with local media. Applicants should be strong writers, with the ability to write witty and entertaining emails. Any experience working with the media or designing flyers and advertisements is a plus. Questions? email Michael Feldman (mfeld@stanford.edu). BAND Committee The BAND Committee is responsible for organizing and administrating the new ACS Bay Area Networking Development (BAND) program. The BAND program seeks to create networking opportunities amongst ACS members from the five area law schools and the Bay Area Lawyer's chapter. Through the use of small group 'families', focused topical dinners, and larger cocktail events, BAND seeks to provide an informal way for ACS members to connect outside of their traditional school networks. This is a hallmark program started by our chapter, and one that has caught ACS national's interest in potentially expanding into other cities in the foreseeable future. Questions? email Dj Wolff (djwolff@stanford.edu) or Sean Hassan (shassan@stanford.edu). Social & Membership Committee The Social & Membership Committee plans the fun stuff! TGIFs (Friday happy hours on campus), coffees and pizza parties with our favorite faculty, debate-watching parties, and other exciting entertainment. Having fun together makes us a stronger and more effective community. Questions? email Sonia Valdez (sonia.eliza.valdez@gmail.com). |
