Vision Statement

The Office of the Vice Provost for Student Affairs envisions our campus community united around a drinking culture that consistently promotes responsible, safe, legal, and healthy alcohol-related behaviors, guided by clear, fair and reasonable expectations and policies.  To this end, our approach to student alcohol use is educational, appeals to reason, and partners with students in the planning, implementation and evaluation of our policies and practices.  We appeal to all students to avoid high-risk drinking practices that lead to harmful consequences, congruent with the Stanford University Fundamental Standard.

Charge to Alcohol Advisory Board, updated October 2003

" The Stanford University Alcohol Advisory Board membership represents a broad diversity of students, staff and faculty, who offer a rich diversity of opinions and experiences related to student alcohol use.  The charge of the Board is to advise the senior administration, through the Vice Provost for Student Affairs, on policies, practices, programs, and services related to alcohol and students."

Alcohol Advisory Board Mission Statement

The mission of the Stanford University Alcohol Advisory Board is to shift student behavior, and campus traditions away from high risk drinking practices to a campus culture that consistently promotes safe, legal and healthy alcohol-related behaviors, guided by clearly articulated policies and expectations.  Congruent with the Fundamental Standard, the approach is educational, appeals to both reason and a sense of academic community, and seeks a strong partnership with students in the planning, implementation and evaluation of the Board's mission.
