Community Crime Alerts are reports of major criminal incidents on the campus that could potentially affect the larger Stanford community. While such crimes are not indicative of life on campus, it is important to be aware of them when they do occur and to take the appropriate precautions.

The following crime alerts were put out by the Stanford University Department of Public Safety during the academic year of 2011-2012. Crime Alerts are listed according to the most recent incident.

Update to Sexual Battery from 2/5/12

The following is a police sketch of the suspect involved in the sexual battery that occurred on Sunday, February 5, 2012 at 0200hrs.

Sexual Battery

A female student reported that on Sunday morning, February 5, 2012 at approximately 0200 hrs, a male entered her unlocked room at 1018 Campus Dr, climbed into her bed while she was sleeping, and attempted to remove her clothing. She awoke and was able to get out of bed and leave the room.

The victim did not know the individual. The victim and a witness described him as follows:

Male, Hispanic ethnicity, in his 20s, approximately 5'11", average build. He was wearing a red flannel shirt (buttoned up), blue jeans, and a grey baseball cap. The male smelled of cigarette smoke.

This incident was reported to the police on the afternoon of February 5, 2012.

The Stanford police encourage individuals to keep their doors and windows locked. Additionally, report suspicious and criminal activity to the police as soon as possible. When advising the police of suspicious and criminal behavior, try to provide as many details as possible.

Assault

On Sunday morning, February 5, 2012, a female victim reported to the Stanford Police that at approximately 1:45AM, she had been assaulted while walking back to her residence. The incident occurred in the Kennedy Grove, between the Faculty Club and the Humanities Center on the Stanford Campus. The suspect came from behind and tackled the victim, causing her to fall. Another male subject in the area witnessed the incident, yelled at the suspect who then fled the scene and is still at large.

The victim described the suspect as a white male in his 20s, approximately 6', 180 lbs, wearing a dark shirt and a baseball hat. The suspect had a strong odor of alcohol.

Anyone with information should contact the Stanford Police at 650-329-2413. Individuals are encouraged to walk in pairs, use suggested travel routes, know the location of the emergency bluetower phones and carry a cell phone.

Death Investigation

On January 26, 2012, at approximately 11:45am, Palo Alto Police and Palo Alto Fire Department responded to a report of a possible dead body in the groves by Palo Road adjacent to Hoover Pavilion. Emergency personnel confirmed the individual was deceased. Investigators do not believe there is any threat to the community. Crime Alert - Peeping Incident - January 23, 2012

On Monday evening, January 23, 2012, a female victim reported to the Stanford Police that at approximately 8:00PM, while she was showering, she observed a subject put his hand under the bottom of the shower door in her residence and attempt to take a photograph of her. The incident occurred on the first floor of Crothers Hall in a gender neutral shower room. When the victim said something to the subject, he left the shower room. From the subject's hand, the victim thinks the subject is Caucasian and possibly a male.

Residents of Crothers Hall reported that three other similar incidents occurred in the same shower room since January 8, 2012. The other three incidents occurred on January 8, 2012 at 12:00PM, January 10, 2012 at 12:55AM and January 22, 2012 at approximately 2:30PM. These three incidents were not reported to the Stanford Police until January 23, 2012.

The Stanford Police strongly encourage people to lock their doors and windows. Please immediately report similar incidents and other suspicious activity to the police. Anyone with information relating to this crime is urged to call the Stanford Police at 650-723-9633 or 650-329-2413.

Update to Robbery

The Stanford police are continuing to investigate the robbery at Quillen Courtyard that was reported during the evening on Tuesday, November 29, 2011.

Robbery

On Tuesday, 11/29/11 at approximately 8pm, a robbery took place in an apartment on the Quillen Courtyard in Escondido Village on the Stanford campus. The victim reported that a male and a female of Hispanic ethnicity forced their way into his apartment. The victim was physically unharmed. The suspects stole property from the apartment before leaving. Each suspect displayed a firearm.

The victim described the suspects as:

Male, Hispanic ethnicity, 20-30 years of age, medium build, last seen wearing a dark grey hooded sweatshirt.

Female, Hispanic ethnicity, 20-30 years of age, last seen wearing dark clothing.

Peeping Incident

On Friday afternoon, November 25, 2011, a male victim reported to the Stanford police that earlier in the day he had observed a male subject possibly video taping him in the shower of his residence at the ZAP House, one of the Cowell Cluster houses near Campus Drive and Bowdoin Lane.

The victim indicated that the incident occurred between 1:30 and 2pm in the afternoon. When confronted by the victim, the subject ran out of the restroom. The subject was described by the victim as possibly being a hispanic male; there was no further description.

Update to Robbery

The SUSPECT description in the robbery that occurred on Palm Dr near El Camino Real on Oct 1, 2011 at approximately 1200 hrs has been modified. The revised SUSPECT description, as provided by the VICTIM, is as follows:

Bi-racial male (possibly Hispanic-African American with lighter skin); between 40-49 years of age; 6'02" tall; 220 lbs with a strong build. The hair on his head was short, straight, dark (black or brown) with some grey highlights. He was unshaven (stubble on chin). Additionally, the VICTIM described the SUSPECT as "hairy" (noticeable body hair on his arms, legs and knuckles).

Unique characteristics: SUSPECT was not wearing glasses; stud earring (possibly with a clear stone) in his right ear; mark or scar across right cheek; noticeable body odor; and dirt under his fingernails.

The SUSPECT was last seen wearing: a black, fitted t-shirt; red basketball type shorts with a black stripe down the side; black athletic shoes; and a blue baseball cap with writing on it (the writing was possibly white in color); and ear-bud style head phones.

Robbery

On Saturday afternoon, October 1, a female victim reported to police that she had been robbed at 1200 hrs on Palm Dr near El Camino Real. The suspect bumped her while she was jogging and forcibly stole her keys and cell phone.
The victim described the suspect as a hispanic male, heavy build, in his 40s. He was last seen wearing a black t-shirt and red basketball shorts and a blue baseball cap. Additionally, he has a tattoo of a cross on his right forearm. The suspect was last seen running towards Palo Alto.
