The sports law branch of the Stanford Entertainment and Sports Law Association broadly seeks to promote understanding amongst Stanford Law School’s student body of the development, practice, and principles of sports law.

This objective is accomplished in several ways. First, the organization itself provides a forum for students sharing common interests to discuss topics related to sports law, and develop their understanding within the context of group discussion. Second, SESLA organizes events – including independent presentations, panel discussions, and conferences – to further elicit dialogue on topics of particular interest and contemporary concern in the field of sports law. Finally, the organization seeks to introduce students to practicing industry professionals and academics to facilitate building relationships for the future to further promote their knowledge of the field of sports law.

As a student-run organization, SESLA utilizes the resources of Stanford Law School and the talented individuals who comprise our membership to prepare students for careers in fields such as sports management, player representation, and labor law. By cultivating the viewpoint that sports law comprises a broad array of legal issues, our members hold a broad array of diverse interests. Such interests result in a comprehensive approach to sports law, reflected in our programming events which address transactional and litigation work across all sports, both collegiate and professional.
