In addition to publishing an anthology of students’ work, Stanford Anthology for Youth (SAY) organizes an annual writing convention honoring seventh and eighth graders’ accomplishments. This year, the daylong event takes place in late May and will feature a guest speaker or performing arts group, along with a variety of interactive writing workshops led by Stanford students and faculty. At the end of the day, students will have a chance to read their own work aloud to peers and teachers.

To cover the production costs of the convention (lunch, facilities, speaker’s honorarium, and parking) we require a small fee of no more than $8 per student. This cost, however, should not prevent any students from participating. Please feel free to contact us to make special arrangements for fee waivers. The money that we receive from the students is used solely for convention expenses, as well as lunch for each participant.

We truly encourage teachers and students to attend. The convention offers students a unique opportunity to celebrate their writing achievements and share their excitement with a group of enthusiastic peers. The small group workshops allow students from different schools to interact and exchange ideas about their writing. Past speakers have included nationally renowned authors and distinguished Stanford writing fellows.

If you are interested in bringing students to the convention, please contact us at stanfordanthology@gmail.com.
