The MELODY (Music Enrichment Learning on Developing Youth) program aims to share the world of music with underprivileged elementary school students. The MELODY program sends a group of Stanford volunteers to serve as both music tutors and mentors to students of the John Gill Elementary School in Redwood City.
On Saturday mornings, these students receive a one-on-one private piano tutoring session, along with a music theory class. The private lessons and group activities encourage the development of a positive tutor-tutee relationship. The individual instruction provided by MELODY would otherwise be unavailable to most ofthe students in the program.
