Formal Recruitment

Formal Sorority Recruitment, which occurs at the beginning of Spring Quarter, is an intensive, week-long series of structured events that you, a Potential New Member (PNM), will attend in order to meet and converse with sorority members. As recruitment progresses, the events become fewer and the time spent at each sorority becomes longer. Through a process of mutual selection, we hope that you will return to the chapters where you feel most comfortable and who are most interested in having you as a member. A $25 fee ($30 after the preferred registration deadline, Friday, March 23) is charged to participate; this fee covers all of your materials for recruitment. The final registration deadline is 11:59 pm on Wednesday April 4.

During the process, you will be guided by your Recruitment Guide, or Rho Gamma. She will be with you every step of the way and you should contact her with any problems of questions you may have. Your Rho Gamma is temporarily disaffiliated from her chapter during the recruitment period, meaning that she has no input in the recruitment process of her organization. Each Rho Gamma acts as a representative of the ISC community, not as an individual member of her chapter. This means you can feel comfortable talking to your Rho Gamma about any chapter you visit because everything you say will be kept in strict confidence and will not affect where you end up. All the Rho Gamma sign contracts confirming their commitment to this agreement. You will receive a recruitment manual at Orientation at the beginning of Spring Quarter. It is a reference guide that contains a lot of important information about the recruitment process.

Formal Recruitment 2012 Schedule

Thursday, March 1, 2012, 8am: Recruitment Registration Opens

  • Register for Recruitment by the Preferred Deadline, 11:59pm on Friday March 23, 2012, for the $25 fee. After this date, the fee is $30.
  • Recruitment Registration closes at 11:59pm on April 4, 2012.

Wednesday, April 4, 8pm in Tresidder Oak Lounge: Recruitment Orientation

  • Meet ISC Exec, your Rho Gammas and pick up your Recruitment Manuals
  • Learn about sorority life and the Formal Recruitment process

Wednesday, April 11, 6:30pm in Tresidder Oak Lounge: Absentee Night

  • This is a courtesy night only for those girls who cannot attend one or more nights of Recruitment because of a legitimate reason (a long-standing commitment such as an athletic event, academic conference, performance, theatrical production, etc.).
  • Please notify Camden & Tierney of your absence via an email providing the reason as well as the specific date and time. Absences must be confirmed with a letter from a coach, parent, director or professor. The deadline for excuses and letters (sent to iscrecruitmentchairs@gmail.com) is 5pm on Friday, April 6.
  • Once you have emailed Camden & Tierney about your absence, please fill out this form for our records.
  • Meet Tierney, Camden, and the Rho Gammas in Tresidder promptly at 6:30 to sign in and discuss the mechanics of Absentee.
  • You will meet all seven sororities from 7-11:30pm.

Friday, April 13, 5:30pm in Tresidder Lobby: Open House

  • Recruitment begins! Arrive at Tresidder Lounge at 5:30 to meet Camden and Tierney, as well as your Rho Gammas and Recruitment Group.
  • Your Rho Gamma will lead you to the seven parties from 6:30 to midnight. When you walk in the door to each room, chapter members will greet you with open arms and loud cheering.
  • At this night, you will watch short videos prepared by each of the chapters.
  • After the last party has ended, reconvene with your Rho Gamma and Recruitment Group outside of the last room. You will then receive instructions from your Rho Gamma to select the chapter you would like to rank last.
  • Please note that you should not be talking to other members of your group about sororities you will be ranking. You should make each decision on your own, as that is the only true way to ensure you find the right chapter for you!

Saturday, April 14, 6pm in Tresidder Lobby: Invite 1 (Skit Night)

  • Recruitment begins! Arrive at Tresidder Lounge at 6:00 to meet Camden and Tierney, as well as your Rho Gammas and Recruitment Group.
  • Your Rho Gamma will lead you to the parties from 6:30 to 11:45. When you walk in the door to each room, chapter members will greet you with open arms and loud cheering.
  • At this night, you will watch short skits prepared by each of the chapters.
  • After the last party has ended, reconvene with your Rho Gamma and Recruitment Group outside of the last room. You will then receive instructions from your Rho Gamma to select the chapter you would like to rank last.

Sunday, April 15, 6pm in Tresidder Lobby: Invite 2 (Philanthropy Night)

  • Meet your Rho Gammas at 6pm in Tresidder to pick up your party schedule for the night.
  • From 6:30 to 10:15pm, you will be attending parties at the designated times and locations. Be sure to be ten minutes early to every party.
  • This night is slightly more formal; a lot of chapter women wear spring dresses. You will be doing a craft to support each chapter's philanthropy. However, you will likely be sitting on the floor so dress comfortable. Feel free to ask sisters what kind of philanthropy events they do throughout the year!
  • At 10:15, meet with your Rho Gamma at the designated location. You may be ranking your third choice chapter. Again, remember to be reflective and mature when making this decision.

Monday, April 16, 6pm in Tresidder Oak Room: Preference Night

  • Meet with Camden, Tierney and your Rho Gammas at 7 pm (sharp!) in Tresidder Oak West. The details of Pref Night will be explained and you will receive your party list. You will attend up to two parties from 7:45 to 10:15 pm.
  • This night is a serious and formal ceremonial experience. Because of the nature of the party, dress is more formal. A nice cocktail dress or skirt and blouse are appropriate. Chapter women generally wear black cocktail dresses.
  • After the last party, you will return to Tresidder Oak Room to sign preference cards. At this point, your Rho Gamma will be available to speak with you if you would like. Otherwise, you may NOT talk to other girls about recruitment--your preference rankings are your choice!
  • There will be some refreshments available for you. Do not bring your cell phones, as they will be confiscated.

Tuesday, April 17, 2-5pm in Tresidder Oak Room

  • Congratulations, you're officially done with recruitment! Pick up your bid and celebrate with us--we're so excited to have you join our community!
