Rules and Procedures for Midterm and Final Exams

Course TAs will send exam questions directly to the Russian instructors by Sunday evening of exam week. Russian instructors are responsible for recording that all exams have been submitted before sending them to the course TAs as attachments in Word format.

Students: Please remember that each exam MUST include the following:

  • Student's full name
  • University
  • The part of the exam being answered (in-class or take-home)
  • Course number (e.g. IDL 101)
  • TA name

Both the mid-term and final exams will be divided into two parts: in-class and take-home

Procedures for in-class exam (40% of total grade):

  • In-class section is held at once with all students at any point during exam week; instructors are responsible for arranging meeting time and location
  • Answers are due the SAME DAY the exam is offered
  • Students MUST NOT have access to the Internet during the in-class exam; students MUST be monitored by instructors
  • In-class exams consist of short identification questions; answers should be 3-4 sentences long
  • Instructors are responsible for collecting exams and mailing them all together to course TAs as Word attachments

Procedures for take-home exam (60% of total grade):

  • Instructors will announce the take-home exam question on Friday of exam week
  • Students have the weekend to complete the questions; answers are due by close of business on the following Monday
  • Instructors are responsible for collecting exams and mailing them all together to course TAs as Word attachments

Policy for missed exams:

  • Instructors MUST inform course TAs if a student is unable to take either portion of the exam during the week assigned for the exams
  • Course TAs will provide instructors with different exams for those students
  • In-class exam: make-ups for in-class exams should take place in the same week posted for the exam; if not, course TAs must be informed
  • Take-home exam: different exam questions will be given to the student; instructors and course TAs will make arrangments regarding the new submission date

Policy for late exams (both original and make-up exams):

  • Grade will be reduced by 1/3 EACH DAY the exam is late - no exceptions
