FOR RESEARCHERS

If your research will involve interactions with and funding from industry, or you need research materials from labs outside Stanford, the Industrial Contracts Office (ICO) will help with the process. ICO negotiates a variety of research contracts with industry, ranging from the transfer of biological research materials to multi-million dollar sponsored research agreements (SRAs) and industry affiliates programs.

Are MTAs necessary?

Not always. We are encouraging researchers to share laboratory materials without agreements, when possible.  If circumstances require an agreement, we urge you to use either a Simple Letter Agreement (SLA) or the Uniform Biological Material Transfer Agreement (UBMTA)A number of universities are signing on to this policy

Please note: Agreements are required for sending or receiving human tissues.
