What is The Humanist Community?
We seek to provide a Humanist equivalent of what religions have:
community, fellowship, resources for social action, fun and a good
place to learn and grow in the spirit of Humanism.
What does the Humanist Community do?
Small Groups and Forums
Weekly Forums on Sunday, during the regular
Sunday program at Tresidder Student Union at Stanford or in the
Clubhouse of Old Union, right next door. The Sunday program includes
small groups. You can visit a map of
the Stanford Campus to help you find Tresidder.
The Forums are followed by eating outside the CoHo and hanging out.
We have a Newcomers table for those who want to find out more about
living life as a Humanist, and what folks in the Humanist Community
are like. It is the one with the flowers.
Sunday Afternoon Hikes
There are hikes going out at about 1:30 pm that carpool from
Tresidder. There are short and long ones, perfect for exploring the
hills around Stanford, and taking a break from studying or work.
Upcoming Events
We have potlucks, parties, celebrations, and social action events.
There is a calendar of activities for the
upcoming month.
Children's Programs
Gradeschool children meet at the HC office once a month for now at
10:15 am. Highscholers attend the Forums. Call Catherine Bishop at
(408)737-9562.
Potlucks, social action, creativity/art group, Darwin Day,
Toastmasters, and more!
For now, if you want more info, call Bill Jacobsen at (650) 969-3630.
He is the Executive Director as well as part of the campus Ministries
at Stanford.
The Humanist Community does weddings, naming ceremonies and
memorials.
Humanist Celebrants have the legal authority to marry people, and know
many excellent resources for celebrations and ceremonies.
