It is one of the few in California that remains in its original setting. The 16 acres of formal gardens include a succession of separate areas, each with a distinct character. Shirin Ebadi Lecture Saturday, May 22nd, 7:00pm (doors open at 6:15pm) Memorial Auditorium, Stanford campus The Persian Student Association and the ASSU Speakers Bureau at Stanford University proudly present a talk by Shirin Ebadi. Shirin Ebadi is an Iranian lawyer and human rights activist. One of the first female judges in Iranian history and a lawyer in several controversial political cases, Ms. Ebadi is now an advocate for refugees, women, and children in Iran. In 2003, she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for "promoting peaceful, democratic solutions to serious problems in society." Admission is free, open to all, first-come first-served. The talk is in Persian (Farsi) with interspersed English translation, and it will be followed by a question and answer segment. But the boy and his mother die in childbirth. The surviving girl is named Pai. Pai (Keisha Castle-Hughes), believes she is destined to be the new chief. But her grandfather Koro (Rawiri Paratene) is bound by tradition to pick a male leader. Pai sets out to prove herself worthy of the post.
