Below are the rules and waiver of liability to which all
renters agree when renting from the VRC.
Renter Information and Responsibility
-
Membership and rental privileges are available to
current members of the Stanford community, including
students and their spouses. (The student's I.D. number
must be
written on the membership card.) To become a member, a
one-time fee of $1.00 must be paid. Only members may
rent from the Village Rental Co-op (VRC).
-
To rent an item, the member must pay for the amount of
time the item will be rented. If an item is returned
early, the unused rent money will be refunded. The
minimum rent for any item is $.50.
-
When an item is rented, the member must issue a deposit
check. The check will be held by the VRC and returned
to the member when the item is returned.
-
At the time of rental, the member and the volunteer
initial the rental card for each item, thereby agreeing
to the condition of the item at the time of the rental.
If the member does not initial the card, it is assumed
that he/she agrees with the volunteer's assessment.
-
All items must be returned in the same condition as when
they were checked out. A $10.00 - $25.00 cleaning fee
will be assessed and due immediately on all items
returned dirty.
-
The member is responsible for all costs associated with
rented items that are lost, stolen, or damaged. Damage
charges will be deducted from the deposit.
-
All rented items must be returned on or before
the due date. The renter is responsible for
remembering when to renew or return the item. The
VRC only sends reminders when an item is past due. If
the item is still not returned after one month from the
date it was due, the deposit check will be cashed.
-
Overdue items have a two week grace period in which only
regular rental charges are assessed. After this two
week grace period, overdue charges are assessed at twice
the regular weekly rental rate. (For example, items
three weeks overdue are assessed six weeks of charges.)
-
Maximum rental time is eight weeks, but most items may
be renewed at the end of eight weeks. The exceptions
are camping equipment (two week maximum rental), the
steam cleaner (one week maximum rental), and the bike
trailers and answering machines (which may be renewed
once, for a total of a four month rental). Renewals
must be done in person when the VRC is open.
-
Items may only be returned when the VRC is open (Monday
evenings 7:30-9:00 pm). The VRC is closed on Stanford
Holidays. Do not leave items outside the doors of the
VRC, or outside of Abrams, or your deposit will be
forfeited. Deposit will also be forfeited if a VRC item
in your charge is found abandoned anywhere in the
Village.
-
There will be a $10.00 penalty for any check that is
bounced, and VRC membership of the person bouncing the
check will be revoked.
Waiver of Liability
The Village Rental Co-op (hereinafter "VRC") is a non-profit
organization. VRC is a student run volunteer organization.
The renter of the particular item agrees that:
- There are no representations or warranties express or
implied as to fitness for a particular purpose, quality
or condition of the rented item.
- The renter, not VRC or its volunteers, is responsible
for checking the rented equipment for its intended use,
quality and condition.
- The renter waives any and all rights concerning the
rental equipment.
- The renter assumes any and all risk, and agrees to
indemnify VRC for any damages to the rental equipment.
- The renter assumes all liability for the use and
operation of the rental equipment.
Your signature on your rental card indicates that you have
read, understood, and agreed to the above conditions.
