HOW CAN YOU HELP?
Write a letter to Geoff, either by email (waiting@stanford.edu) or freehand (take it to EBF or mail to EBF, 1115 Campus Drive, Stanford, CA 94305), that tells a little of why you support the murals and why they absolutely should stay. How they affect the house, in terms of spirit, identity, whatever you feel like. If you can make an academic connection, go for it. JUST WRITE SOMETHING, ANYTHING!!!
Below is a forwarded email from TERRA, which is getting CIP'd this summer. You may not think that we are in a hurry, since it is more than a year away, but trust me, Facilities has made it crystal clear that if we want to take any effect at all, we need to act now. Which is why the petition that you have already all signed was a huge help.
Don't let them turn our Co-op into a "coop"!
We need to communicate this feeling to the housing administration in order to save our murals. So the plan is to have a formal report laying out our argument for why Terra should have control over its own walls. As part of this document we want to include testimonials regarding people's feelings about murals.
But what is this feeling? How will the white walling of the building named Terra change Terra the Co-Op we know and love? What do the current murals mean to you as an individual, as a Terran, as a Stanford Student? What does having the option to paint the walls in Terra mean to you, or rather, how would not having the option to paint the walls in Terra affect you?
Please send me any thoughts, feelings, emotions about anything regarding this matter and not necessarily a response to the questions above (added only to stimulate feelings on this matter).
Responses sent to me will be included in our final report as an appendix. Some will be used as quotes in the actual document itself to illustrate specific points. I will also be contacting other Co-Ops for their views on this issue.
Please please please do respond for Terra needs you.
Thanks,
Chris Wheat
