Intramural Trivia Tournament !!

The Stanford Quiz Bowl Club will host its 2006 Spring Intramural Tournament on Sunday, June 4, 2006. The event will start at 12:30pm and should end by about 5pm. Teams should eat lunch before coming.

The questions will cover all academic subjects (history, science, literature, fine arts, geography, social sciences, etc.), plus current events, pop culture and sports. Questions will be provided by National Academic Quiz Tournaments; here's a sample packet.

The tournament is FREE and open to all Stanford students.

A typical team has four players. Your team can have more than four players, but only four can play at a time. We encourage dorms, majors, and extracurricular groups to field teams, but you're welcome to just grab a few friends. Successful teams often have members with different areas of expertise (a science person, a literature person, etc.). We prefer not to have one-person or two-person teams, so email us if you're having trouble finding teammates; we'll be happy to match up partial teams.

Prizes will be awarded to the winning team and to the top individual scorers.

The tournament will take place in Building 200, the History Corner. Everybody should meet in room 124.

Teams arriving late risk forfeiting. The exact format of the tournament will depend on the size of the field, but teams should expect to play at least three matches.

We will be playing a format similar to the standard college quiz bowl format; here are the rules. Questions about the rules can be answered by email or before each game begins.

All teams must register via email. To register, email a team name (cleverness appreciated!), plus the names and emails (if possible) of your team members to quizbowl-admin@lists.stanford.edu. Please tell us if you or your team members don't want to be added to a low-traffic email list for announcements of future intramural quiz bowl events. The deadline to register is 11:59PM on Saturday, June 3.

Please, please don't fail to show up if you register.

We need helpers to read questions and keep score at this tournament. Tell your friends! People interested in playing Alex Trebek for the day should email quizbowl-admin@lists.stanford.edu.
