Congratulations to The Harker School for winning the 2005 Cardinal Junior Classic!
Cardinal Junior Classic, run by the Stanford Quiz Bowl Club, occurred on
Sunday, October 23, 2005 at Menlo-Atherton
High School. Fifteen teams attended, from the following eight schools:
Menlo-Atherton, Bentley, Mira Loma (in Sacramento), Menlo School, Harker,
Mission San Jose, Evergreen Valley, St. Joseph Notre Dame.
Teams began the day by playing 4 or 5 random opponents. Stats and standings
for those rounds can be found
here.
Then, teams were put into brackets a through c (top 5, next 5, next 5). Each bracket played a round-robin. Stats and standings
for those rounds can be found
here.
The top 5 teams played in bracket "a". Here are the results for that
bracket (record from prelims did not carry over):
Harker A (4-0)
MSJ A (3-1)
Bentley A (1-3)
Bentley B (1-3)
Mira Loma (1-3)
Harker A went undefeated to win the tournament, and Mission San Jose A
took second place with a 3-1 record. Those two teams both qualified for NAQT's
2006 High
School National Championship Tournament to be held in Chicago in
June. The third and last nationals qualifying spot went to Bentley. (Since we had a three-way tie for third place, the two
teams with the fewest points [Bentley B and Mira Loma] played. Bentley B
won, 260-120 and then played Bentley A. Bentley A won that match 460-155.)
The top individual scorers of the tournament (based on performance during
prelims) were:
1. Yi (Harker A) 118.00 points per game
2. Brett (Bentley A) 82.00 points per game
3. Darwin (MSJ A) 69.00 points per game
4. Jonathan (MSJ C) 55.00 points per game
5. Steven (MSJ B) 51.25 points per game
6. Arkajit (Harker B) 51.00 points per game
7. Joe (Bentley) B 46.00 points per game
8. Tom (Menlo-Atherton) 45.00 points per game
9. Albert (Mira Loma) 42.50 points per game
10. Dana (Evergreen Valley A) 42.00 points per game
