Engaging High School World History Students

    CISP conducts a statewide project to prepare high school World Hisotry teachers for leadership roles in engaaging average-acheiving students, students who tend to have little interest in World History or commitment to school. The Contemporary World History Project (CWHP) opersates at two levels -- a multiyear knowledge and skills development program for participating teachers plus a compurter-assisted, international negotiation simulation for their students.

The project's overall purpose is the development of high school teachers' knowledge and instructional skills relating to World History. Within this overall purpose, there are five key elements, or component parts, that define the project's teacher development goals: (1) academic knowledge, (2) perspective taking, (3) teamwork instructional processes, (4) incorporation of instructional technology, and (5) conflict management and negotiation skills.
