Resource list:

NASA's Earth Observatory provides new satellite imagery and other data relating to Earth's climate and environmental change.

National Library for the Environment includes many free resources, including 692 excellent (objective, nonpartisan, technically accurate) reports produced by the Congressional Research Service.

The Union of Concerned Scientists and Ecological Society of America collaborated to create "Communicating Ecosystem Services," a Web site offering toolkits to help science educators with outreach and communication about the value of ecosystem services.

US EPA's site includes sections on global warming, economics, oil spills, human health, hazardous waste, and much more.

World Resources Institute provides many valuable references, including information about the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment.

Worldwatch Institute produces the annual publication State of the World.


Special and regional interest

California Wild is a non-profit dedicated to protecting the state's remaining wildlands. Reports available on their site include Missing Linkages, on habitat corridors in California, and Wildfire: A Natural Part of Life in Northern California.

Second Nature is a non-profit organization that works with colleges and universities to incorporate sustainability concepts into all aspects of academia and campus life. Their site includes many resources for faculty, students, and administrators: searchable databases of expert contacts, papers on relevant topics, best-practices examples, and bibliographies of additional resources.

The Rainforest Alliance offers a bilingual database of conservation projects in Mexico and Central America at Eco-Index.
