Here is a sampling of resources for online environmental news that we've found useful (not a comprehensive list).

Environmental News Network is an excellent source of connections articles.  It compiles and summarizes important environmental issues reported in scientific and public journals from around the world.

Daily Grist is an environmentally focused electronic journal.  You can look through the magazine on-line or have them send you the top five environmental news stories of the day.

The Earth Times is a web newspaper on the human environment and interrelated economic, humanitarian and social issues. Contains good links to international agencies' websites.

Ecological Society of America (up-to-date information on government actions)

Greenwire (DC-based environment & energy daily news)
National Geographic News

Planet Ark (Reuters' daily summary of global environmental news)

Thomas (the Library of Congress' site on U.S. legislation)

United Nations Environment Programme's information portal site


General conservation information

NASA's Earth Observatory provides new satellite imagery and other data relating to Earth's climate and environmental change.

National Library for the Environment includes many free resources, including 692 excellent (objective, nonpartisan, technically accurate) reports produced by the Congressional Research Service.

US EPA's site includes sections on global warming, economics, oil spills, human health, hazardous waste, and much more.

Special and regional interest

California Wild is a non-profit dedicated to protecting the state's remaining wildlands.

Second Nature is a non-profit organization that works with colleges and universities to incorporate sustainability concepts into all aspects of academia and campus life. Their site includes many resources for faculty, students, and administrators: searchable databases of expert contacts, papers on relevant topics, best-practices examples, and bibliographies of additional resources.

The Rainforest Alliance offers a bilingual database of conservation projects in Mexico and Central America at Eco-Index.
