Kevin DiPirro, lecturer in PWR, has coordinated a theater project entitled Propositions, to be performed in early June 2009. Sponsored by the Stanford Institute for Creativity in the Arts (SICA), the project is an original, site-specific theatrical performance by Stanford students. The performance is the creative fruit of his Devised Theater class last winter, where a fearless group of non-Drama majors took on the daunting task of devising--or collaboratively creating and performing--a 45-minute play that explores three California Propositions (animal rights, drug treatment programs, and gay marriage). This spring, a reconstituted group, under the direction of two graduate students, Rachel Anderson and Matthew Moore, has re-devised a performance that more fully explores the nature of propositions and how they work--or don't work. The piece has also examines the nature of performance, audience, and space. The event, taking place outdoors, welcomes the audience to witness, consider, and at times, take part in, a series of theatrical moments by choosing what to watch, how to watch, and whether or not to engage--including choosing food, drink and seating.
