CourseWork: How to Add People to a CourseWork Site

I'm assuming you either want to add one person, or add multiple people who will have the same role (instructor, course admin, student, etc.)

1) After logging into your CourseWork site (http://coursework.stanford.edu), click "Site Info" in the left navigation.

It may take several moments for the subsequent page to load. CourseWork has to load all participants in the class and for some reason this is a taxing procedure for the server.

2) At the top of the screen, click "Add Participants."

Add Participants

3) Type in the SUNet ID of the individual you want added into the course in the box provided.

Recall that one SUNet ID is the same as what's before the "@" in their email address.

Given the assumptions above, make sure that "Assign all participants to the same role" is selected.

Click "Continue."

4) Select the role you want the participant(s) to have and click "Continue."

Though each role is defined somewhat on the CourseWork page, I usually assign Curriculum Development Assistants (CDAs) to a "Course Admin" role, since having them as other administrative roles ("Instructor," "Head TA," or "TA") might cause some confusion.

Faculty and fellows should have "Instructor" access.

5) Choose whether or not you'd like the participant(s) notified that they've been added to the course.

Though you aren't able to customize a message, you might be able to save yourself a separate email by letting CourseWork send them an email telling them that they've been added to the CourseWork site.

Click "Continue."

6) Confirm that everything is correct and click "Finish."
